What is the role for men in this new step for women? What Is helpfull in the process? is there something they can do to encourage women to be that pioneer so they can be partners on the same mission?
Men have their own work to do that should make it possible for women and men to be partners in the mission of creating the future. They need to find their own way forward through two different temptations:
one, to return to the classic macho masculinity in which they are driven by achievement, scoring, and acting on their own, and, two, to try to please women by being careful and soft-spoken and feminine. Neither are an expression of the full humanity that women and men need to and can be. Our old ways of being masculine and feminine cut us off from half of our humanity.
For women, this meant being cut off from an Eros that takes us into the unknown. For men, it was about pushing away the intimacy and vulnerability of care. We need to make a lot of space for each other to experiment and stretch into these aspects of ourselves that historically have not been “ours.” In this process, we can be partners with each other in creating a new world.
In the Netherlands many women are seeking who they are and trying to find their mission in life. Spirituality is not by far a shared value in our culture. What can you say about that?
Spirituality is so important because through the experience of the deepest sense of who we are, we develop a profound trust in life and realize that we are not separate. This gives us a deep confidence, security, courage, and an openheartedness to others.
How can we make spirituality a more common value and deepen our experience in who we really are?
There are good reasons why spirituality is seen as something suspicious. A lot of New Age spirituality has been just a new form of superstition. This is why many are trying to push away from their Christian roots. They see religious conflict as one of the big problems facing the world.
