ABOUT THE
PINTELEH ART
At Lamplighters, we are committed to creating an
environment where wholeness is actualized- a child’s
talents, body, heart, mind and will are revealed and
nurtured in his or her learning. At the core of each child,
each person, is that driving engine-- that unique spark
that enlivens all their aspects of self. The pinteleh.
The pinteleh is discovered when one reaches within and
explores who one really is, at his or her essence. From
preschool through staff, each Lamplighter examined their
face in a mirror and painted what they saw as their pinteleh,
their essence. For some students it was a self-portrait-- for
others it was an object, scene, or abstraction they identified
with. The students were encouraged (though not forced!) to
paint their images using the method of pointillism, in which
countless solitary dots of many colors come together to form a
whole- a satisfying masterpiece- much like how the combined
“sparks within” each person form a magnified destiny.
