Chuck Baldecchi
Has Taken TLS
from
Good to Great. Chuck Baldecchi announced in May, 2018,
that this academic year would be his last at The Lexington School. He has
served our school and our community for 15 years, and it is difficult to say
goodbye to our leader and friend. The next step in his career will be Head
of School at Charlotte Latin School in North Carolina.
In the midst of change, there is constancy.
The cover story of Fall 2004 Pinpoints was “New
Faces, New Places.” In the headline quotation, Chuck
Baldecchi, then new Head of School, said, “We want
our students to graduate with a respect for others, self-
motivation, critical reason, fairness, and confidence.”
Fifteen years later, his well-considered statement still
stands.
Ann Eames, former Pinpoints editor and English
teacher, opened that 2004 cover story: Charles
Baldecchi had a vision for The Lexington School even
before he interviewed with the Search committee. He
dreamed of making this vision a reality “by knowing
each student and inviting him or her to know the
2
school community, my family, and me. I would make
it a reality,” he went on to say, “by leading the faculty
to form such a community. I would make it a reality
by inspiring the alumni and parents to endow this
community for future generations of students.”
Chuck has done exactly that.
As The Lexington School family begins to say
goodbye to the Baldecchi family – Chuck, Erin, Bella,
Alex, and Cade – the community makes time for
warm reflection, for the sharing of stories, and for the
opportunity to say a collective, heartfelt thank you.
The constancy of Good to Great at The Lexington
School remains, of course, with Una MacCarthy,
longtime Assistant Head of School and Middle School
Head, who will become the eighth Head of School
on July 1, 2019. The unanimous choice of the search
committee, Una has been a dedicated, respected, and
beloved leader at TLS since 1996.
Chuck Baldecchi leaves The Lexington School in
excellent hands.
