FULL STEAM AHEAD! A summertime extension of The Lexington School experience, Camp Curiosity 2020 features Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math, encouraging campers to engage their brains and their bodies. 22 Meredith McCoun, Co-Director of Athletics and in her eighth year as Director of Summer Programs, says, “Get ready for active learning and enjoy those wonderful parts of summer. Nothing about Camp is just one thing; each session brings all STEAM approaches to the table, and all offerings incorporate the outdoors. This falls in line with our Mission Statement to instill ‘a life-long enthusiasm for learning,’ as we educate the whole child. We will play, build, create, think, run, and have plenty of fun.” Camp runs six weeks, from June 8 through July 24, with no camp the week preceding July 4. Half-day sessions are from 9:00 A.M to 12:00 P.M. and from 1:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M. Back by popular demand are some favorite TLS teachers, who will teach again this summer. Virginia McDaniel, Assistant Director of Admission and fifth-year Camp Curiosity Associate Director, explains, “Three years ago, we began the Junior Counselor Leadership Program, which has been hugely popular. It’s a great opportunity for kids who are ready for that responsibility to grow leadership qualities in a nurturing environment. They are trained in CPR and in first aid with Katie Morris, athletic trainer and health care provider. The easy, on-line application process for middle schoolers is also open to non-TLS students, and offers the opportunity to meet new friends. Of course we will use the new areas of our school, the iLab, project rooms, and other spaces, as we focus on Lower and Middle School, with our brand-new backyard and the great new playground equipment.” Gather some STEAM and join us!
