Ms. MacCarthy gets a happy dose of Kindergarten on the first day of school. 4 | HEADLINES | Una MacCarthy Head of School NTENTS 22 We are in! After months of planning, a year of construction dust, architects, contractors, and heavy equipment, we are in, and we are excited. The new space is better than we ever imagined as we continue to unpack and discover all the different ways to use our new space. The centerpiece of the project is our library in the Academic Center. Full of books, large windows, and big comfortable seats, students and faculty fill the space throughout the day, exploring all the new things to learn. The junior library, separated by a glass wall from the main library, gives our youngest students a nook to call their own. Just above the library, wide hallways fill the top of the Academic Building with multi-use spaces. Project rooms, meeting space, an innovation lab, and classrooms branch off. These rooms enjoy the bright sunshine spilling in from the library below. Learning Center students proudly enter their beautiful new classrooms designed with their specific instructional needs in mind located right across the hall from their grade-level peers. The new location allows Learning Center students to integrate easily with their classmates for Specials, recess, and group time. The older parts of the building received a major facelift as well with huddle rooms and project spaces built in for Middle School students to collaborate and work in small groups. The rooms stay constantly in use as our older students fill the space to prepare for a project, practice their presentation, or quietly study. Finally, The Lexington School has always valued play. The ONE School Project expanded the playground space, added athletic fields, and built the Colt House which houses concessions, bathrooms and meeting space adjacent to our lush fields. The preschool playground is in the works and will be completed this summer. In the following Pinpoints pages, you will learn even more about the impact of this amazing ONE School Project. The energy is palpable as I walk the halls of our expanded school and see how the new spaces make such a difference for our students, faculty, and community as a whole. Even better is when I can share the new with those who remember “the old.” Just last week I received a text from a TLS alum. “Hey Ms. Mac - haven’t been home in a while - can I swing by and see what I have been hearing about?” “Of course,” I responded, “and how about staying for lunch?” I walked the halls with him today and had a great time. If you have not been on campus, please come visit! I would love the chance to show you around too. And please stay for lunch. Every day there is something special to share at TLS. 36 55
