Beautiful Skin
101
By: Demy Arsenault
Demy Arsenault is a professional makeup artist in Moncton, NB.
I started off by having an addiction to makeup when I
was in high school, and the one thing I always had my
friends tell me was that by wearing so much makeup,
my skin would age faster and I would get acne. Even by
hearing all of that, it never stopped me from applying
my makeup every morning.
When I followed my dream and took a Makeup Artistry
course, it taught me that:
-Makeup will not make you break out
- Makeup will not make your skin age
But, there is a catch. You still have to take good care of
your skin to prevent this.
This means taking your makeup off before bed, washing
your face, applying a toner and applying a moisturizer,
both morning and night.
You’ll need 4 things to achieve beautiful skin, but first
you need to determine “what’s your skin type?” Oily?
Dry? Dry / Oily Combination?
4 Things you’ll need:
1- Makeup Remover
2- Face Soap
3- Clarifying Lotion (Toner)
4- Moisturizer
My Routine for Beautiful Skin
-Every night before I go to bed, I remove my makeup
with a makeup remover.
28
- I wash my face with a facial soap. This will take away
dirt and oil.
- I apply a toner all over. This will take away flaky skin,
excess oil and make your skin glow.
- I then apply a moisturizer. This will give my skin
all the moisture it needs. And even for those with oily
skin, you still need moisture. Make sure you are using
the right kind for your skin type.
I repeat all of these steps over again when I wake up
in the morning, except for the first one because I took
my makeup off before bed. So now, you’re probably
wondering why we would wash our face again, when
we just washed it before bed. Well the answer is simple.
Your pillow collects germs and dirt and your face
is against that all night. When you sleep, your body
temperature can rise which would make you sweat. For
example, someone like me with combination oily skin,
I wake up with an oily forehead. We need to wash all
that off before applying our makeup. Your face needs
to be prepped before applying makeup. Your face and
your pores also have to breathe, so having a clean,
makeup-free face before bed makes all of that possible.
“Before an Artist starts painting a canvas he needs to
prep his space and set up his canvas.”
Our canvas is our face. We also need to prep it. So start
prepping, and in no time, you’ll see the difference in
your beautiful skin.
