definitely a memorable moment as the biggest part of the day, but other high points would include our first dance, which we enjoyed a lot more than we thought we would. A big bonus was the weather – we couldn’ t have asked for more, with sunshine and blue skies.
There was a great moment in the evening where Paul and I got on the microphone and sang Sweet Caroline which is a bit of a favourite among our group of friends. The whole room was jumping and dancing with us on the dance floor, all singing along, and it was incredible looking back and seeing everyone there just for us.
Our tip for other couples is to take your time with it and don’ t let it consume you. Only do what is achievable – realistically and financially. It’ s far too easy to get drawn into the magical wedding inspirations on Pinterest and try to replicate them, but for me it was too much, gave me too many ideas and made me indecisive.
Entering wedding competitions is definitely a top tip from me – we won our cufflinks from Swarovski through their Facebook competition, saving us £ 200; I won tickets to the National Wedding Show, our sweet shop which was worth £ 250, and a few other bits, so be sure to visit all the wedding websites for competitions and search on Twitter for things like‘ wedding competition’ or‘ wedding win RT’.
There’ s also a weekly wedding hour chat hosted on Twitter every Wednesday, 9-10pm, which is filled with suppliers chatting, promoting products and services, and inspiration from other users who are engaged.
I think the wedding market still has a long way to go to cater for same-sex weddings.
‘ There aren’ t that many events or businesses in the UK for same-sex weddings, so the internet and some imagination and creativity is going to be required in finding everything you want.’
Ensure you find yourself a photographer that you can feel really comfortable around. Our photographer had previously worked on a few of our friends’ weddings and we loved her style – but most of all we loved the way she was with us and how comfortable she made us feel. It was just like having one of our close friends with us, which made us relax and have fun with it.
Also, make sure you have a good relationship with your wedding planner / coordinator and that they are efficient and highly organised!
Our final piece of advice would be to remember that the day is about you two – no one else. Yes, you can take your guests into consideration when planning, but don’ t do things you don’ t want to or sacrifice things that are important to you, just to please others. It’ s your wedding day! www. siobhanelizabethphotography. com
