The Role of Rolling In Daily Life
Why is it important to master rolling? Every day your
body needs to bends forward. Washing your face
over a basin, putting the groceries in the car,
gardening, picking kids up off the floor, etc. are all
forward bending actions.
The purpose of working on rolling until you can
master it, is to enable you to do daily activities, not
only with ease, but without putting your spine in a
vulnerable position.
Many people who experience acute back injuries, say
they did it bending over to pick something up, or
bending over the basin, brushing their teeth. But the
injury didn’t really happen then, it was the hundreds
of times, the spine had to bend forward in a
compromised way.
If you don’t actively work on the mobility of the spine,
it will get stiff, especially as we age. It’s a sad fact that
many people not only struggle to get out of bed
every morning due to lack of the ability to roll the
spine, but then have a daily battle with putting socks
and shoes on.
The spine needs to move in all sorts of different ways,
but making a conscious effort to improve it’s ability
to roll will have far reaching lifetime benefits.
