who wrapped up his illustrious career in 2017 as the state’s all-time leading scorer and the all-time leader in assists. He says he has a philosophy when it comes to coaching both the star players and the young, developing athletes. a byproduct of a team coming together and playing with belief in each other. While at Sylacauga, Zedaker helped lead the Aggies to eight playoff appearances in a 12-year run under coach Matt Griffith. “My philosophy is to show then we care about them, show them this is a family environment, show them that we love them and want the best for them,” Zedaker said. “Families have their ups and downs but at the end of the day they know I care about them. Regardless if they’re the stud linebacker or star quarterback or they’re a t hird string B-teamer; I care about you just the same way and I will treat you the same way.” Having a unique perspective as a product of Sylacauga, Zedaker feels that Lincoln can soon become the premier school in Talladega County, across the board. Trying to gauge how a team will produce in year one with a new coach is almost an impossible task with too many unknowns at play. However Zedaker says he knows how he wants his team to play each Friday night. “I want a team [opponents] to walk off the field and say ‘that team just played us hard for the entire four quarters’,” Zedaker said. Obviously every team wants to win every game but Zedaker points out that the winning is “I want to bring that mentality to Lincoln and I want Lincoln to be known as the top school in the county, not only in football but all athletics. You know that if you’re playing in that county tournament in any sport we’re playing, Lincoln’s probably going to be in that final game,” Zedaker said. “The players are itching for it, they are craving it, so it’s teaching them the right way of how to get to that.” The football season doesn’t provide a lot of free time but when he’s not on the field, Zedaker enjoys spending his time with his wife, Jill, and two daughters. Now as he enters a new athletic family, you can be assured the “athletic neighbors” will soon take notice of Lincoln once again. 2017 Pigskin Roundup the Magazine | 63
