W
hen Kenney Britt was a young
player, just getting his name
out on the recruiting trail,
he used to pray in his quiet times about
getting an offer from a big-time college
football program. He had faith that if just
one would see his highlight tape it all
would change.
class of college signees made their
choices official, the area seemed thin on
prospects, at least compared to other
years. But in the months that followed the
prospect pool in East Central Alabama
has erupted like a once-dormant volcano,
making it potentially one of the richest
classes in years.
Boy, was he right. Over the past few
months the Oxford linebacker has been
drawing so much attention from some of
the biggest programs in the nation the mail
he has been receiving has filled one storage
crate and part of another.
Not only has Britt become one of the
nation’s top prospects, there are several
other SEC-level prospects on the
landscape, including the first quarterback
to commit to the conference – and not to
Alabama or Auburn – since Brodie Croyle.
In addition to Britt, Etowah quarterback
Daulton Hyatt has committed to Arkansas,

Southside running back Alaric Williams
is a long-time Auburn commitment; and
Gadsden City teammates Tory Bateman
(OL) and Damon Williams (RB) are
getting strong interest from the college
game’s major players.
And then there’s another group where
players are entertaining interest from
smaller Division I and FCS-level programs,
like Etowah’s Lee Green and Malik Wilson
or Winterboro’s Khalil Keith and Munford’s
Jakari Robinson. Even younger, Oxford
sophomore lineman Clay Webb already is
getting SEC interest.
