TALLADEGA TIGERS
The winds of change are
blowing on both sides of the
ball at Central High School of
Clay County. It’s not due to
lack of success. The Volunteers
have only lost nine games
in the three seasons of their
school’s history. It’s more about
changing personnel and the new
strengths that they bring to the
table.
Playing on the Class 5A level,
most teams hang their hat on a
strong junior and senior class.
For third-year Talladega head
coach Robert Herring, the top
two classes aren’t exactly a
luxury. His senior class is made
up of five players total. Herring
is going to rely on a heavyladen freshman and sophomore
class to carry the weight. The
leaders for Talladega this year
are made up of two players
that have “always been there”
when the head coach makes his
rounds picking up players before
workouts during the long,
grueling summer. Fullback/
middle linebacker Jamont
Twymon was one of the first
mentioned by Herring. He’ll be
joined by tight end/defensive
End Jaylon Russ. Russ is a load
from either side of the ball with
his 6’ 4” 275 pound frame.
Unfortunately, the dedication
of Herring and a depleted staff

After sputtering at times
offensively in 2014, the
Volunteers look to open up the
offense this fall. The running
game will still be a major
component of the offense, but
opponents can expect more of
a spread attack. “I’m always
going to be a run-first coach,
but with our skill people, we
have to spread the ball around,”
Coach Kris Herron said.
Dual-threat Sophomore
Ben Street is expected to run
the offense, after suffering a
season-ending injury in preseason drills last season. Fellow
Sophomore Cameron Peoples
gave Volunteer fans a glimpse
of his explosiveness in the final
weeks of 2014.
