CLASS 2A REGION 5 RANBURNE BULLDOGS Ranburne Coach Chad Young enjoyed his best season as a coach in 2014. The Bulldogs rolled to a 12-0 mark before falling to eventual State Champion Fyffe in the Class 2A Semi-finals 42-14. Ranburne was dominant on both sides of the ball, averaging close to 37 points a game while allowing just 15. Expectations are once again high in Ranburne, but Young says there’s plenty of room to improve. “We have to find some ways to put up points. We need some guys to make some big plays this fall, but I expect a lot more close games this season, “ Young said. The Class 2A Region 5 race will provide plenty of tough battles. “Woodland finished strong last year and will continue to be strong. Reeltown lost several close games. Lanett is extremely talented and Randolph County practiced three times and looked great in their spring game.” Young said, “We will have our work cut out for us every Friday night.” Dylan Wiggins returns for his senior season after an incredible junior campaign. Wiggins completed 143 of 211 passes for 2,533 yards and 25 touchdowns. He also had 29 carries for 740 yards and eight more touchdowns. He’ll be joined in the backfield by his cousin, Dalton Wiggins, and Donovan Tullis, who missed 2014 with an injury. The offensive line is led by highly-touted Ryan Smith, a 6’4” 315 blocking machine. Receivers Logan Otwell and Owen Smith provide Dylan with some steady targets in the passing attack. Defensively, Riley Smith and Blake Young will look to handle the trenches. Donovan Thomas, Hunter McAdams, Logan Otwell, and Dalton Wiggins will man the linebacker spots. Owen Smith, Dylan Wiggins, and Jared English will provide leadership in the secondary. The Bulldogs open up the 2015 season at home against Pleasant Valley on August 28th. Week two is a road trip to Randolph County in a huge Region 5 clash.
