INT . HALLWAY - LATER
The nurse pushes Eli in a wheelchair . He silently stares at his feet , masking the deformity . While we can ’ t see it ...
Hospital employees and visitors cringe . Clearly , it isn ’ t the best work .
Dr . Remington steps forward with a warm smile :
DR . REMINGTON I ’ ll be seeing you soon , Eli .
He ignores her , as an automatic door swings open to the--
EXT . PASSENGER LOADING ZONE - DAY
The hatchback is parked at the curb . Sophie stands beside the front passenger door - it ’ s open and waiting like an old friend .
She helps her father out of the wheelchair into the front seat . She even buckles him .
Eli rests his head against the window . We see hints of scarring in the reflection . That is all .
They drive off .
EXT . HOUSE - LATER
The hatchback pulls up to the house . The grass is unkempt and could use a good mowing - just like Eli , it ’ s what ’ s on the inside that counts , right ?
But , what ’ s even more distracting is the mob of onlookers , including neighbor , Gordon Sullivan and his son , PATRICK , 8 , watching from their lawn . Hell , there ’ s even a news van .
