Patrick scurries from under the bed , like a roach in light , and comes face-to-disgusting face with Eli . He grabs the boy ’ s shoulder :
ELI ( CONT ' D ) Woah , kid ! What are you doing in here ?
Patrick can ’ t take it ! He screams his little lungs out !
ELI ( CONT ' D ) Calm down ! Patrick , it ’ s me !
No luck . He ’ s hysterical .
Eli covers his ears , but then his face - it hurts ( not just the shrill cries ), but the realization of what he ’ s become ... a real-life monster .
Patrick collapses and convulses on the ground . Eli hovers over him .
ELI ( CONT ' D ) You need to breathe ! Take deep breaths ! Like this--
Eli leads the meditation , but all Patrick can see is the disfigurement .
ELI ( CONT ' D ) Come on , Pat . You can do it--
GORDON ( O . S .) Get away from him !
Gordon pushes Eli aside . Moments later , Sophie joins the party .
GORDON ( CONT ' D ) What the hell did you do to him ?
ELI Nothing . I swear .
GORDON You better not have touched him !
