Friday Night Parties
There was a lot of activity going on in my mom’ s room. They wanted to get her into surgery as quickly as possible. She was groggy from the pain medication they had given her. I hugged her as well as I could with all the wires and tubes in the way. " I love you Mom. I’ ll be here when you come out." One more hug and kiss and it was time for her to go. Dad stroked her cheek and whispered in her ear. She smiled and blew us a kiss. Then they took her out.
The surgery took hours. In the early hours of the morning the doctor came to talk to my dad and I. " We had to amputate her right leg just above the knee," he said. He laid a hand on my shoulder. The doctor shook his head, " We just don’ t know yet. It’ s really too soon to think about those things. I wish I had answers for you. The truth is this was an infection I’ ve only seen once before. It’ s rare and very aggressive. Let’ s just get her through this next 24 hours and then we’ ll talk
