Teaching Is A Gift
know he meant something to me and that he had an impact on my life.
I have a young lady this year who sits in class and looks right through me. There is a disconnect that is not normal, and I have not found a way to get through to her. I have contacted her mother a few times and her mother has been very appreciative. She is currently going through testing to see if some type of medication will be beneficial. Not being able to reach a student is by far the hardest part of the job.
It is different being the teacher of young adults versus being the teacher of elementary students. I am introduced to these young people at an impressionable age and at a time when many are trying to declare their independence. Most junior high students have outgrown wanting hugs from their teachers, but they do want to be noticed and be treated with respect. I want to help develop their math skills, as well as help them gain a positive sense about themselves outside of the world of math.
But for as much as I hope I have positively affected their lives, I am the one who has been affected the most. The relationships and friendships I have attained over the years are priceless. I have high school students come back and ask for help in their advanced classes. Sometimes I can help them, and sometimes I can ' t, but they still come back.
