Faith

Grandma would like for you to say goodbye to her. She won’ t be able to speak just now, but she can hear you.
Vince and I nodded to our kids. They were all old enough to do this and we agreed that it would help them in the days to come. They went up to Mom’ s room one at a time. Dad was there to comfort them while they were talking to Mom. They each came down the stairs sniffling and went to hang out on the back porch. I peeked out there and saw them all holding hands. I said a small prayer of thanks that they had each other during this time.
Sylvia was in the kitchen with me as I was making sandwiches for everyone.“ Diane,” she said,“ Jane wanted me to remind you what she said about dying and death.” I broke down then. Sylvia came over and embraced me and talked softly into my ear.“ She would want you to know that she’ s not afraid anymore. The peaceful look you see on her face when you go upstairs is real.
She’ s almost home. It’ s up to you now to tell her it’ s ok to go. You, Vince and Earl all need to tell her it’ s alright for her to go and be with Jesus now. She knows how hard it will be for you, Diane but she wanted you to remember how strong your faith is and that you are her daughter. You CAN do it.” Sylvia held my hands in hers and said a prayer for me.“ You can go up to see her whenever you’ re ready. I’ ll be right here if you need me,” she said.
With a heavy heart I climbed the stairs to say goodbye to my sweet mom and send her into the arms of Jesus.
