Yan Ho (@ballade916) was the
photographer behind our Photo of the
Month, a gorgeous spring shot that
makes masterful use of perspective.
The leaves closest to the camera
form a shrouded wreath around the
edges, which compliments the arch of
blossoming flowers behind it to create
a sort of tunnel of foliage, leading
to and framing the young girl at the
image’s focal point.
The way that the foreground and
background are kept out of focus,
leaves us with a strong portrait at the
very center. We can clearly see the
young woman staring back at us in
full focus through a swirl of branches
and flowers, a crisp and clean image
amongst a lovely mess of twigs, leaves,
and flowers.
The use of black and white enhances all
of this, as the dark edges nearest to us
gradually brighten towards the well-lit
center, guiding our eye gracefully.
When all of these factors are pieced
together, we are left with a truly special
photograph. This is just one of those
photos that was captured at the instant
when all sorts of complementary forces
came together beautifully. It is the
perfect seasonal portrait.
