PERMISSIONS
We cannot all be offered these golden
opportunities. So if you deem a museum
interesting or important enough to venture
inside, obtain permission. Contact staff
beforehand to be sure of their policies. It may
be necessary to pay for a permit.
On another book project, I hired a guide who
was intimately familiar with a major museum
collection. She bought the proper credentials,
circumvented the long lines and steered me
through the most significant sections. She
provided me with copious notes that helped
with captioning later.
Keep equipment to a minimum. You will
probably use your wide-angle lenses for most
of the work. Harsh light can actually damage
some of the more delicate artwork.
