A MOMENT IN TIME Part of becoming a skillful photographer is learning how to be present behind the lens, always ready to capture a scene that may appear only for a fraction of a second. It’s a tough skill to master, requiring intense concentration and the ability to anticipate a moment (of course, a bit of luck doesn’t hurt either). It may be difficult, but when a photographer can do this, that’s when a photo can really shine. This capture by Emre Simtay (@emresimtay), at first glance, is easy to gloss over without a second thought. But if you look closer, you’ll notice a carefully constructed composition. The subject is straddling the line between light and shadow, and because the shot was captured at precisely the right moment, she appears to be carrying a tree—a symbol of life, growth, and strength—in the basket of her bike. It’s an empowering image, imbued with meaning thanks to Emre’s acute awareness of timing and composition. But that’s just our interpretation. What do you see? PicsArt Monthly |77
