A New Court in Town: Pickleball Hits Boston Big

by DREW WATHEY
The sports culture in and around the Boston area is iconic to say the least, and adding pickleball to the mix has been in high anticipation. Well, now the wait is over for this fervent sports community.
As one of the last major cities in the United States without a true dedicated indoor facility, PickleBOS with two locations has drastically changed the sports landscape in the New England area. Eleven courts in South Boston and 10 due to open soon in Charlestown has Beantown all abuzz.
“ The city has very few outdoor courts, so players were regularly waiting hours just to get on a court,” says Alex Karsos, founder of PickleBOS.“ Demand was clearly outpacing supply, yet there was no purpose-built space in the city. When we saw that gap, we knew Boston was ready— the community just needed a home.”
What makes PickleBOS so unique and on the cutting edge is the utilization of PodPlay, a video replay and scoring technology and a first-of-its-kind experience for most pickleball players.
Karsos adds,“ We’ ve also installed LSI pro uplighting throughout, which— paired with our signature brickred walls— creates exceptional visibility and a distinctive atmosphere. Our playing surface is Acrytech Cushion-X, a premium cushioned court that’ s easier on players’ joints and built for serious play.
