April 15 typically brings one thing to mind for most Americans: Tax Day. But for those who live and breathe pickleball, this year’ s date carried a very different kind of excitement. Instead of focusing on deadlines, fans turned their attention to the fourth installment of the wildly popular Ares Pickleball Slam, held at Hard Rock Live inside the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, Florida.
This year’ s combatants vying for the $ 1 million purse included Genie Bouchard, a former tennis professional who joined the pro ranks at the tender age of 15; James Blake, who at one point in his career reached # 4 in the world on the men’ s ATP Tour; Anna Leigh Waters( ALW), unquestionably one of, if not the top superstar in the world of pickleball; and Pickleball Slam’ s three-time defending champion and eight-time Grand Slam winner in men’ s tennis, Andre Agassi.
