EDITOR’ S LETTER

In
the crowded world of sports endorsements, few athletes transcend on-court success to become commercial powerhouses. For mainstream sports like tennis, golf or basketball, that leap is nothing new. But now the growing world of professional pickleball is entering that prestigious league with our own Anna Leigh Waters gaining leverage most athletes only dream of.
In sports past, endorsements were a reward for decades of proven success. Waters, only 19, flips that script. Her marketability— social media presence, relatable personality, and domination in a fast-growing sport— makes her an immediate commodity. Brands aren’ t just buying her performance but her influence … and the future of pickleball.
In January, Waters, the indisputable No. 1 player in professional pickleball, landed a groundbreaking apparel and footwear contract with Nike, becoming the first pickleball athlete in the Swoosh’ s global roster of ambassadors.
She also signed a multi-year equipment sponsorship deal with Franklin Sports, becoming the official face of the major sporting goods brand.
And there’ s more. Waters is also a headline member of the“ Ulta Beauty Roster,” a group of elite female athletes launched earlier this year. As an ambassador, she creates digital content focusing on“ performance-ready” beauty routines. She often discusses her use of skin care products and light foundations that can withstand the rigors( and sweat) of professional tournament play.
Waters’ partnerships represent the arrival of pickleball in the cultural mainstream. By aligning with global giants like Nike and lifestyle leaders like Ulta Beauty, she has positioned herself as the face of a new generation, setting the gold standard for what a modern athlete can achieve in a rapidly evolving sports landscape.
Contributor Laura Gainor caught up with Anna Leigh Waters inside her luxe Prevost tour bus during the PPA Tour Carvana Mesa Cup in February. Don’ t miss our exclusive interview on page 28.
