My story started at the end of the COVID-19 pandemic. I live on a cul-de-sac in southern California and my neighbors and I were looking for ways to exercise and blow off steam, so eventually we picked up pickleball.
At the time, I was 30 pounds overweight and had an international corporate sales job for the largest transportation company in the world, so I was spending hours in front of a computer, on webinars and on the phone.
I was about 10 years from the last of two back surgeries and 20 from a knee meniscus tear and partial ACL tear, so my body had also paid the price of a Division I sports career of indoor volleyball at the Ohio State University.
Stretching and walks were not making an impact on my weight or mental health. I was about 29 years out of college and my D1 volleyball routine, and had really let things go. Corporate life, late dinners, massive email
