much smaller scale , but in a short time were asked to be the official broadcasting partner for the APP Tour .
“ Up until 2020 , I had been working at an engineer firm for the past 10 years ,” Selinko said . “ I had no background in production , broadcast equipment , cameras , audio , Photoshop , editing , etc . But with my obsessive personality , and the fear of not wanting to fail , I had the self-belief that I would figure it out .” Thus , by the end of 2020 , he launched Boxcar Productions with Coleman , a senior pro pickleball player who sold his home to live on the road for pickleball . With significant clients such as USA Pickleball , MLP , APP , and DUPR , to name a few , the Boxcar Productions team continued to grow into what is now considered the biggest broadcasting company dedicated to the sport of pickleball .
Boxcar Productions first brought on Steve Taylor to enhance the broadcast with his on-air graphic production and professional photography skills . Now , Selinko leads a team of eight , with much more going into the production of a pickleball broadcast than the eye can see . “ Organization is key ,” he explained . “ First we need to figure out all the broadcast equipment needed for each court and coordinate with the venue for setup . Other tasks include creating all broadcast graphics , setting up platforms to stream all courts , creation of commercial blocks to make sure all sponsors reach their promised commercials , and more !
“ In the last two years , we have done more than 50 events throughout the United States , with over 1,600 hours of content streamed ,” Selinko continued . “ I have traveled over 25 weeks in each of the last two years .”
Coleman , Selinko ’ s right-hand man and technical director , is quite proud of how far Boxcar Productions has come in such a short time . “ Since 2020 , Boxcar has completed a two-year relationship with the APP Tour and a one-year agreement with USAP , broadcasting five National Championship Series tournaments , and the last two USA Pickleball National Championships at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden ,” he stated . “ Boxcar was also involved in producing one of the biggest pickleball broadcasting events to date with Major League Pickleball in Columbus , Ohio , with 11 cameras , five camera operators , and the first-of-its-kind , four-camera replay system was brought into production .”
Above all , it is clear that Boxcar Productions cares about pickleball and all the little details of a production . The company ’ s goal is to continuously strive to better tell the story of pickleball , and provide access to pickleball tournaments for players and fans all across the country — living by the tagline “ We know pickleball .” Follow Boxcar Productions on social media @ boxcarpickleball . •
