Acronyms Galore ! PT mlp
If you haven ’ t noticed , PB ( pickleball , that is ) uses a lot of acronyms . It was founded in BI ( Bainbridge Island , Washington , the birthplace of pickleball ).
Below is a compilation of commonly used acronyms and here is some insight into a few of the entities that make up our great sport .
In 2009 , there were only two major pickleball tournaments — Nationals , sponsored by the USA Pickleball Association , and ASO , Arizona Senior Olympics , which quickly became Grand Canyon State Games to allow the under-50 crowd to play .
Since then , the acronyms have flourished . TOC ( Tournament of Champions ) started in 2012 as an invitational , and soon after , the PPF ( Professional Pickleball Federation ) was founded .
While PPF has since gone away , we still have professional tours — the APP and PPA ( Association of Professional Pickleball and Professional Pickleball Association , respectively ). And those tours have spawned specialty events : MLP ( Major League Pickleball , which is in its second season ) and PNIA ( Pickleball Night in America ).

Alex Hamner and Jennifer Lucore began playing and competing in pickleball in 2010 and have both been inducted into the Pickleball Hall of Fame . They are co-directors of training and development at Naples Pickleball Center , Pickleball Capital of the World .
