Longtime contenders Matt Wright and Lucy Kovalova had to settle for bronze as the sibling act of Lindsey and Riley Newman made their way to this year ’ s final . On the other side of the draw , # 1 seeds Ben Johns and Simone Jardim fended off the surging Catherine Parenteau and Dekel Bar . In the main event it was Johns and Jardim who once again showed why they are the best of the best , taking the gold in two games over Newman and Newman .
Somewhere along the line , the US Open became a staple in the diet of hungry pickleball players from around the world . In that sense , this year ’ s event wasn ’ t just pickleball at its finest , but also a symbol that although the world has indeed changed , the game we love is alive and well . •
