INVESTING IN
THE FUTURE OF
PICKLEBALL
Thanks to a unique arrangement
between the government and
investors called “Qualified
Opportunity Zones,” (QOZ) where
investors can finance needed
projects in specific locations across
the country in return for favorable
tax incentives, developers are
planning a pickleball wonderland in
Prescott Valley, AZ.
Espire Sports™ is a multi-sport,
fitness & wellness complex with
incredible dining, along with a
luxury RV & cottages resort. “The
idea was to build up some of these
areas for jobs and it was a good
thing all around. People can put
capital gains into these projects
and not pay taxes until 2026. When
they do pay them, they are only
paying 90 percent of the tax owed.
After that, they get to keep future
gains tax free.”
The “Espire Opportunity Zone
Fund” is open to all types of
investments; Savings, IRAs, 401Ks,
403Bs & 457 plans or Capital Gains
from other investments, even a
1031 exchange
What Thomas, Co-founder Tom
Konkowski, and their partners,
Scott and Daniel Moore, are doing
in Prescott Valley is using the QOZ
vehicle to attract investors to the
ultimate pickleball facility - Espire
Sports™.
“We think we’re putting together
the nicest indoor pickleball
complex in the world,” Thomas
said. “I was playing in tournaments
and watched groups of Pickleballers
coming in their RV’s staying
a week or longer. It made sense
to put together an indoor/outdoor
pickleball complex, with RV slips
and cottages that people could
rent if they didn’t have an RV.
Pickleball is a very social game and
the players were having to travel
to other
locations to
eat and just
hang out,
so we added
a restaurant
/ yard and our
concept was
complete.
“This multisport
complex will have
various sporting
activities from virtual
golf simulators that
you can play a variety
of sports on, to a full-size
basketball court available
not only for basketball
but volleyball, futsal, and
badminton too!”
