ZERO ZERO SAVE! must work within the limitations of our students’ bodies and PPR will help teach this to potential coaches. Fans of great players want to emulate their style of play without recognizing the countless hours of drilling, training and playing the greats put in prior to competition. It sounds simple from a pickleball coaching side, but it’s necessary to discuss more than safety. Talk about control. Being in control of the body, the paddle, the movement and, most of all, control of the play. Set achievable and attainable goals (every 6-12 months) for your students and track their progress. More than a rating or a medal, talk about mastering the many shots of pickleball. If you’re a player, find a coach who understands your style and won’t try to change your muscle memory or your body mechanics (unless to prevent injury); someone who understands the foundations and will teach you more than just how she hits a ball or a shot. Make sure your coach gets to know you as a person and a player, not just as a paycheck. Our sport is exploding! The growth is faster than any organization or technology can keep up with, and yet we must remember what drew us to this sport—not the sponsorships, the paddles, the medals, but the camaraderie, the friendships, the laughter, the tournament competition and the fun evening pickup games followed by gathering at a favorite restaurant. Pickleball will continue to grow and evolve and we must stay true to the core foundations that made our sport with a funny name so wildly popular. • SAVE 15% ON ANY AMAZIN’ ACES PRODUCT W W W.
