he course description is simple and
direct: Improve your pickleball talents, all
while having more fun than you’ve ever
experienced playing the sport. Classes
are well underway at USAPA Pickleball
University. Two curriculums were recently
held in Florida while another is scheduled for August 25-28
in stunning Lake Tahoe at Granlibakken Resort. Details of
the Lake Tahoe event, also known as Pickleball University
West, are available on the USAPA website at usapa.org.
Earlier this year, pickleball players from across the
country made their way to Club Med at Sandpiper Bay in
Port St. Lucie, FL, to attend the first two USAPA University
experiences. Because of its popularity and constant
demand for the university at the highly popular resort,
there were two sessions, January 26-29 and January 29–
February 1.
Participants received optimal instruction from some of
the top players in the game, including Brian Staub, Sarah

Ansboury, Jennifer Lucore, Rob Davidson, Rodney “Rocket”
Grubbs, Josh Grubbs, Nicole Hobson, Jim and Yvonne
Hackenberg, Brian Freso and Tim Kuss. Each of the two
universities featured six of these top pros.
Aside from learning the fine art of dinking, ground
strokes, net play, serving, volleying and overall court
management, students were also treated to the
spectacular amenities at the all-inclusive sports venue,
and the picture-friendly and social media magnet known as
the USAPA’s graduation ceremonies.
Located about two hours north of Miami, Club Med at
Sandpiper Bay continues to provide an outstanding venue
for USAPA University. With an 8 to 1 player to instructor
ratio, all the students received plenty of individual attention
and have begun to utilize the new instruction and helpful
hints back at their home courts.
