In July, many avid Canadian pickleball
players took advantage of the proximity
to our neighbours to the south and
headed to Wellesley Island, NY, to
participate in the second annual CANAM
(Canadian/American) Dink & Dine event.
The Wellesley Island Pickleball Club is
more than 100 strong and continues to
grow, as does the interest in the sport
and cross-border play.
The creative minds of John MacDaniel
and Jeff Singleton established a plan and
executed a seamless evening of dinking,
dinner and drinks.
Teams we re blended between both
countries and play was held on eight
courts divided between open play
and “challenge” play. More than 70
participants enjoyed the excellent venue
at the Thousand Islands Golf & CC.
The hope is to continue this tradition
for years to come with more participants
sharing local food, a passion for
pickleball and a blending of friendships
between nations. •
