PUBLISHER’S
PLAYBOOK
I
t’s almost that time! The USAPA National
Championships is just around the corner—
November 3-11—at the prestigious Indian
Wells Tennis Garden in sunny California.
Get ready for some great pickleball and
lots of fun! My wife Lisa and I are excited to play at
such an awesome venue and, more importantly,
we’re excited to catch up with pickleball friends.
During the week of the National Championships,
the 2018 Pickleball Hall of Fame Inductees will be
announced. This marks the organization’s second
year of accepting nominations and recognizing
pickleball players who’ve made extraordinary contributions to the sport. We’ll introduce
you, the readers of Pickleball Magazine, to the 2018 Inductees later this year via our
coverage of the upcoming Hall of Fame Ceremony.
We’ve incorporated travel into this issue—travel camps in cool locations throughout the
U.S. and abroad in places like Thailand, the Netherlands and Costa Rica. In addition,
we have coverage of the Bainbridge Cup and Italian Open with an abundance of photos
to give you a sampling of the culture and sights surrounding the tournament. Perusing
all the photos that have come across my desk lately has given me a serious case of the
travel bug!
So often we’re asked, “How can I install lines on existing courts?” or “What’s the best
layout for courts on a new surface?” We decided it’s time to answer your questions.
Check out our step-by-step guide titled, “Chalk It Up! How to Line a Pickleball Court” on
Page 46.
Pickleball MAGAZINE ’s Level Up Camps continue to grow—increasing offerings throughout
the country and introducing fun, new ways of teaching students how to play and enjoy
the game. I feel fortunate when I can attend some of the camps myself—it’s such
a fun environment and a great opportunity to meet new people. And, of course, an
opportunity to work on my own game!
As I’ve said many times, we love hearing from you, so please continue to send us your
wonderful stories and ideas! We entertain each and every one of them!
Until next time…
