Quick Tips
D
TIME
OUT
BY CHRISTINE MCGRATH
PICKLEBALL INSTRUCTION
uring a tournament match, you get two time
outs for every game to 11 and two time outs
for every game to 15. They are one minute
in length and can be called any time before the
referee calls the score. The
time outs are there to help
you. Therefore, if you’re ever
losing a match, there’s really
no excuse to not utilize all of them.
When to use time outs:
1) When you need to refuel or hydrate with a quick
snack or water
2) When you have lost a streak of points and need a
change of momentum
3) When your opponents have hit a few winning
shots in a row and are hot
4) When you’ve missed a few shots and need a
moment to regroup
5) When you need a moment to re-strategize with
or without your partner
6) When you need to talk to a coach on the
sidelines •
