BRINGING IT
HOME!
Grow abilities as well as numbers
Put together a player development program that
will move players to the next skill level, such as
training classes and drills, or bring in a pro team
for a clinic. This will especially help the 3.0 and 3.5
players move to the next level.
Continue to partner with the local parks
department
Keep the relationship with the parks
department active. Growing the sport is a
partnership from the first painted line through
the development of additional and
potentially dedicated courts.
New courts grow pickleball, and
pickleball rejuvenates parks.
When desiring new courts,
help the parks department with
fundraising efforts—this can make the outcome
more likely.
Keep the process moving forward
As resources allow, establish a Facebook page,
website and email account.
Let a popular local tournament or two become
established, gradually attracting more players
from a widening geographical area.
Begin the process of developing a referee
base, which can lead to a USAPA-sanctioned
tournament, bringing the tournament experience
to a whole new level.

Pickleball changes communities for
the better. Stronger community
connections, new friendships,
enhanced mental and physical
health, rejuvenated city parks,
new visitors to the area and the
main thing—hours and hours of fun
pickleball play—all happen in a town because
someone steps up, gathers a few friends, finds a
lonely tennis net and starts to play. •
