sea, good food, cold drinks, great
music and dancing. More raffle items
were handed out, including paddles
by Paddletek, ProLite and Franklin
Sports, hats by iDink Wear and some
bottles of Bacanora, a tequila type
of liquor made only in the state of
Sonora.
The tournament culminated with
the Amigos Cup organized by Debbie
Forrester. This was a fun and friendly
competition using a boxing theme
between “Team Mexico” and “Team
The World.” Players from the under-60
group and SSIPA players were
partnered together in mixed doubles
teams, with one point per game
awarded to the winning team. The day
was chock-full of festive boxing motifs,
including a Ring Girl parading around
the courts displaying the next round,
music tracks with “Hit Me With Your
Best Shot” and “Eye of the Tiger,” and
nicknames such as “Mike, The Meek
but Mighty, Cox.” Team The World won
by a score of 49-32. A mariachi band
surprised everyone flash-mob style
with a live performance while players
used their final bursts of energy to
smack down a piñata filled with candy.
Thanks to Tournament Director
Theresa Melius, Sue Fehrle and Christa
