you have pickleball-related resolutions as part

of your New Year’s celebration. Resolutions
are a great tool, if we make meaningful and attainable goals. But Michael Miller
resolutions can disappoint if we aren’t realistic about them. If your SALES MANAGER

New Year’s resolution is to go from being a 2.0 player to a 5.0
player, without ever having played a racquet sport, you might want

to rethink that goal. A better one would be to aim for a half-level

improvement in your game—a full level if you have the time and
tenacity.
Other resolutions don’t need such a quantitative dimension and
can be self-esteem savers if your other resolutions fall through.
Resolve to become more active in the sport by becoming an
ambassador, or go through the training to become a certified
referee. If you’re already a skilled player, resolve to give back to
the sport by teaching where pickleball isn’t already popular. Great
pickleball destinations didn’t just happen overnight—they all started
with player passion and plenty of tape. There are a lot of athletic
clubs and public recreation centers where people would love to
learn the game, but just don’t have anyone to teach it. We’ve profiled
men and women whose love of the game brought pickleball to fire
department garages, military bases, jails, even the North Pole!
Finally, make sure your resolution is fun for you! Only you know
your personality and what crosses the line between fun and work. If
teaching a class is a second job for you, then resolve to bring one
friend and teach him or her how to play. If introducing pickleball to
a local recreation department is work, then try talking to your child’s
gym teacher about it as a start.
No matter what your resolution this year, I wish you every success.
See you on the courts!
