presenters and inductees as they shared their accounts
of how the game was invented and how each of them
has contributed to the sport.
Representative Joel Pritchard was the first honoree.
He was the founder of pickleball but passed away in
1997. Pritchard’s son Frank accepted the induction.
Barney McCallum, the second of the three founders
(along with Pritchard and Bill Bell), was also inducted.
His son David was on hand to accept the nomination.
McCallum was instrumental in early paddle
development and growing the game.
Mark Friedenberg and Sid Williams were inducted for
their work developing the game and the USAPA.
Arlen Paranto was inducted as the originator of
the composite paddle. His paddle design is still the
prototype used by the majority of paddle manufacturers
today.
Finally, Billy Jacobsen was inducted for his athletic
prowess on the court. Jacobsen dominated play on the
courts for over a decade and was well-known for his
outstanding sportsmanship.
Inductees were also presented with Pickleball Hall of
Fame rings and jackets. Additional information about each
