Dawson adds that pickleball is also
something that brought his family
together, athletically.
“We play together as a family. My
wife, Jennifer, and sons Callan and
Tyler all love it,” he says. “My kids
don’t play tennis, so this is a sport
that lets all of us play together and
can provide many more years of
family time.”
To Dawson, who’s only been a
tennis club owner for three years,
the impact of pickleball has been eye-
opening.
“I never thought it would get to
this. I was simply trying to generate
income to help with payroll as a new
business owner and the next thing I
know, it took over my tennis club,”
he says. “It used to be $200-$300
a month of extra income; now it’s
a huge part of my club socially and
financially. And it got me hooked
too. It grew organically. I’m just
trying to manage the growth. I do no
promoting, no advertising, nothing.
People pour in because it’s such a fun
game.” •
