Second Annual
US Open
The Biggest
Pickleball Party
in the World
34
I
f you ask US Open President and Founder Terri
Graham to describe the event that’s drawn
thousands of pickleball players to Naples, Florida,
for the past two years running, she’d tell you that
it’s a “party with pickleball attached to it.”
And, with the number of players and spectators
growing exponentially from last year, all
indications are that she’s doing something right.
The April 21-28 event not only provided some
spectacular play, with Dave Weinbach and Kyle
Yates earning a repeat win in the Men’s Doubles
Pro Finals and Simone Jardim and Corrine Carr
winning the Women’s Doubles Pro Finals, it gained
the attention of CBS Broadcasting, which televised
the event to a 6-million-member national audience
on May 19. The growth of the event, and the
sport as a whole, interested CBS enough to sign a
multiyear contract with the US Open to broadcast
the event for several years to come.
