FROM THE USAPA
ASBA AND
USAPA LAUNCH
PICKLEBALL
CONSTRUCTION
MANUAL
BY JUSTIN MALOOF / USAPA EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
L
ast June, I mentioned that USAPA had teamed with
the American Sports Builders Association (ASBA) to
produce an official construction and maintenance manual
designed to provide technical information for contractors
and the general public. This information would address the
need for those seeking information for new construction
as well as repurposing of existing surfaces.
After hours of research and meetings with many of
the industry’s premiere manufacturing and construction
experts, I am happy to announce that the new
contractor’s manual is now available on the ASBA website:
www.sportsbuilders.org/publications/.
The demand for pickleball courts has never been greater.
As the USAPA Executive Director, I receive questions
regarding court design and construction on almost a daily
basis from people all over the U.S. and around the world.
This manual provides a wealth of professional information
and is designed to provide industry standards, thus
eliminating much of the “guesswork” from the process.
This 108-page manual is packed full of information,
diagrams and helpful photos.
Chapters include:
• Planning Your Outdoor Pickleball Court or Facility
• Building Pickleball Courts
• Adaptive/Wheelchair Pickleball
• Fencing
• Lighting
• Pickleball Court Accessories & Amenities
• Care & Maintenance

To celebrate the launch, USAPA members will be
provided with a special discount code that will give them
25% off either a hard copy edition or an electronic copy.
Members will be provided this code in a dedicated email.
For those not familiar with ASBA, it is the sports
industry’s premiere organization for builders, designers
and suppliers of materials for tennis courts, running
tracks, natural and synthetic turf fields, and indoor and
outdoor synthetic sports surfaces. ASBA is recognized
nationally as a centralized source for technical information
and consumer-oriented information such as proper site
selection, choosing a contractor, identifying the proper
surface, etc. USAPA is very excited to partner with
ASBA and bring this much-needed level of service and
professionalism to the pickleball industry. •
