PICKLEBALL PADS New web site connects traveling players with rental units R obert Finn lives in Sun City West, Arizona, and is the first to admit that he knows little about pickleball. At the same time, he is launching a business that has the potential to help pickleball players across the country. Finn unknowingly began his journey into pickleball several years ago when he entered the short-term rental business with his son, Jim. The two currently have five rentals in Washington, D.C., and two in Sun City West. Robert’s sister, Cathy Stansbury, is a pickleball ambassador in Daytona Beach, Florida. Needless to say, she is passionate about the game. Over the years, Cathy has stayed at a few of Robert’s rentals. Last year, Cathy was sharing her pickleball excitement with Robert when they mutually came up with the idea of offering his rental properties to tournament travelers. More specific, the idea was to create a web site where home 28 and condo owners could list their properties and players could rent with them for a fair price. The opportunity certainly has potential. Robert said, “We wanted a place to connect with people who have properties to rent short term – generally for 3-7 days.” He added, “So far, we have been surprised at the number of people booking for a month at a time.” So how does it all work? If you’re a property owner, you pay $25 to join the web site. There is a minor vetting process where you have to be referred by a pickleball player or ambassador. If you are a prospective renter, you pay $15 to have access to the web site. That’s it! The web site is new, but the service potential to pickleball players is huge. • >> To learn more, you can go to www.pickleballpads.org. TO SUBSCRIBE CALL 724.942.0940 OR GO TO THEPICKLEBALLMAG.COM
