been to, you forget the pain.” She said she would definitely be
back directing again next year.
From a spectator perspective, the competition was nothing
less than amazing. The majority of the top players came out to
the tournament to compete.
The Women’s 5.0 Open was won by Corrinne Carr and
Christine McGrath over Alex Hamner and Jennifer Lucore.
Carr was a 2015 National Championships Women’s 5.0 Doubles
Finalist at Palm Creek where McGrath took the bronze.
Wes Gabrielsen was the big show on the men’s side, racking
up gold in the Men’s 5.0 Doubles (with Scott Moore), gold in the
Mixed 5.0 Doubles (with Alex Hamner), gold in the Mixed 19+
(with Sarah Ansboury) and silver in the Men’s 19+ with Kyle
Yates (Scott Moore and Dave Weinbach won the gold).
Gabrielsen commented, “Playing in this event for the first
time was a thrill. Anne, John and the entire support team did a
30
stellar job running a smooth and fun event. This is a top-notch
venue/tournament every player should enter.”
If you find yourself in Arizona in late February 2017 looking
for a great event with top-notch competition, you won’t be
disappointed participating in the GCSG. •
