Dear Readers,
I have the wonderful privilege of volunteering with
a great local Boy Scout troop. These scouts worked
extremely hard this past year raising money for their
annual high adventure. After they had raised the
money, the scouts decided that as part of the high
adventure they wanted to do a zipline course and not
just any zipline course. They wanted to do the longest,
fastest, and most extreme course in New England.
When the time finally arrived for the zipline course
and the scouts saw in person how high they would be
suspended off the ground they were a little scared.
However, we had a fantastic set of zipline guides. They
helped put the scouts at ease by explaining the quality
of the equipment, the safety measures that would
always be in place, and the numerous years of ziplining
experience the guides had. After that, the scouts were
able to muster the courage to make the initial jump.
They soon found themselves 200 feet above the ground
soaring like eagles. The scouts (and the leaders) loved
it! It is a memory that they will cherish and I’m sure
will share with others throughout their lives. However,
if they would have gotten cold feet and never made that
initial jump, or not trusted our guides they would have
missed out on the experience of a life time!
