Mission Moment : Letter for the Care Teams at Renown Regional Medical Center , Richard Maier , D . O . , William Graham , M . D ., and Nishad Sathe , M . D .
My 85-year-old , critically ill father Jim Wilson was recently a patient at Renown . He was there from Oct . 17-29 in Tahoe Tower . I was so impressed with the overall level of kindness and compassion we encountered .
Almost everyone treated Jim and us as if he mattered . He was very important to us . He was a beloved husband for 63 years , father for 60 years , a very present grandfather and a greatgrandfather . He did our taxes and fixed our computers . We all went to him for wisdom and advice . As my son said , he was the rock of our family .
My mother refused to leave my father ’ s side . And I never felt like I could leave either one of them , so I had an extensive opportunity to interact with many medical professionals and observe different styles and approaches to patient care . While most medical professionals extended compassionate care , a few stood out and a few more truly went above and beyond .
• The CNAs on the 7th floor were great . I would like to mention Kloe , Maddie , Carly , Monty and Natasha . They were positive , pleasant , and accommodating .
• There were several nurses that went the extra mile - o Olivia , a visiting nurse , was amazing . Her positivity , optimism and caring made everyone better .
o Kaylah treated my father so respectfully . When she thought no one could see or hear her , I saw her pat my father ’ s shoulder and speak to him so gently . Integrity .
o Mariah would hold my father ’ s hand and lean in to speak into his ear . He was hard of hearing and some of the others had a tendency to yell . It was such a small gesture to grab his hand and speak into his ear but such a reassuring , calming presence .
o Carson was very good to my father . She was especially comforting to him . o Andrew was extremely thorough . He was excellence personified . o The CICU nurses were outstanding . o Gabby was wonderful . Just her presence was healing .
o Lauren with the red curly hair was a very comforting presence . She took everything in stride . She was so patient , so nice , so attentive and approachable . We all felt better when we saw her come on duty . She is really an exceptional nurse and person .
o Poor Faith was with us on the last day . She was so sweet . She could not have had too much experience , but she was exemplary .
• Nicole the speech therapist was fantastic . She was extremely kind to our family and wonderful with my father as well .
