Hospitals and health systems that have earned an ACC HeartCARE Center designation have met a set of criteria , including participating in at least two ACC Accreditation Services programs , NCDR registries and targeted quality improvement campaigns , such as the Patient Navigator Program : Focus MI , designed to help hospitals and institutions close gaps in guideline-based care .
Renown Health was previously awarded Chest Pain Center Accreditation with Primary PCI Distinction , Heart Failure Accreditation with Outpatient Services Distinction and Transcatheter Valve Certification by ACC Accreditation Services .
ECMO Program
The Leona M . and Harry B . Helmsley Charitable Trust is granting $ 11.6 million to three Nevada health systems to expand access to life-saving care for patients suffering from acute cardiac and pulmonary failure , and Renown Health is one of them .
The grant projects will expand the availability of ECMO ( extracorporeal membrane oxygenation ) to provide heart and lung support for patients with severe failure of the heart , lungs or both . The state-of-the-art procedure can save lives in cases that otherwise would offer little chance of survival and can act as a bridge to those needing heart or lung transplants .
Awake and Aware : Protecting Brain Function During Tumor Surgery
The two main objectives of brain tumor surgery are to first remove as much tumor tissue as feasible , and second to safeguard essential functions , particularly speech and motor abilities . Dr . Rima Rindler , a neurosurgeon with Sierra Neurosurgery Group , performs awake craniotomies to achieve this delicate balance . This surgery is a collaborative effort of a multidisciplinary team including neurosurgeons , an anesthesiologist , a neuropsychologist , a neurophysiologist , surgical technicians and / or nursing staff . Reserved for tumors nestled within the brain ' s substance , such as gliomas or metastases in critical regions such as the frontal or temporal lobes , this procedure emerges as a game-changer .

Imagine undergoing brain surgery while fully awake . It may sound daunting , yet for many patients facing tumors nestled within the brain ' s intricate folds , it offers the hope for enhanced quality of life . As Dr . Rindler explains , " Awake craniotomies increase the margin of safety of resecting brain tumors ," marking a paradigm shift in neurosurgical precision . Under general anesthesia , the initial steps are taken to expose the brain and locate the tumor . Then , the patient is gently awakened to engage in a series of speech tasks , while the neurosurgeons delicately probe the brain with electrical impulses . Through this intricate procedure , vital areas are identified .
