DEAR RENOWN MEDICAL STAFF COLLEAGUES ,

I would like to begin 2024 by wishing you a Happy New Year and to thank you for your kind welcome and friendship over this past year . Since joining Renown Health and the UNR School of Medicine in April , I have felt blessed to be a part of such a proud history of top-notch quality and innovative care that offers world-class care close to home for our community .
Having always worked in not-for-profit national organizations , it has also been inspiring to be part of the only locally owned , not-for-profit hospital system in the region which reinvests every dollar back into our community .
Bill Plauth , MD If I haven ’ t had the pleasure of spending time with you , I thought I would share a little about myself and
what drives me . I grew up in a family with a long line of physicians , including three grandparents , both parents , my sister , multiple cousins and my in-laws . My grandfather practiced with the Mayo brothers , and my grandmother was the first female surgeon in New York . My father is a pediatric cardiologist , and my mother was the medical director of Grady Hospital in Atlanta . As such , medicine was just part of the normal day and dinner discussions . This imparted upon me a sincere appreciation of the sacrifices that all of you ( and your families ) make every day in the pursuit of a higher purpose . It also ingrained in me a love of the collegiality and teamwork necessary to provide exceptional care . Also , I have been fortunate to be married to my better half , Pam , who is a retired critical care nurse , who trained at Guy ’ s Hospital in London , before coming to Reno to practice at St . Mary ’ s and then UCSF where we met ( or where she and her colleagues trained me ). Having gotten married at Lake Tahoe , it has been wonderful returning to our initial roots .
Coming to Renown Health , I recognize the same collegiality , professionalism and teamwork that I so admired so from the physicians and caregivers from my childhood . Thank you !

Medical Staff leaders such as Dr . Christie Elliot , Dr . Tim Halterman , Dr . Scott Parkhill , Dr . Ross Albright , Dr . Demers and Dr . Farah Madhani-Lovely epitomize this clinical excellence and professionalism . I greatly appreciate their vision and leadership of our Medical Executive Committees ( MECs ), as we now transition to our new combined Medical Staff in 2024 . Both Regional and South Meadows voted in favor of the combination in decisive fashion , i . e ., 95 % and 91 % in favor , respectively . The new MEC members are listed later in the newsletter for reference . I thank all of those who are currently finishing their terms and those who now are willing to step up and lead . I am delighted with our MEC membership and look forward to a great year . The caliber of leadership represents the intent of combining the Medical Staffs . Simply put , we are better working together .
