Each month , physicians and advanced practice practitioners at Renown receive recognition through patient testimonials . Here is a highlight from recent months .
Dear Heroes and Heroines of Renown Regional Medical Center ,
On Oct . 28 , 2023 , I was admitted into Renown ’ s emergency center and diagnosed with the following “ final impression ” under the attending physician , Mathew D . Berner , MD : COVID-19 , acute respiratory failure with hypoxia ( HCC ) and sepsis with acute hypoxic respiratory failure with septic shock due to unspecified organism ( HCC ).
The “ Critical Care Note ” from Dr . Berner indicated “ upon my evaluation , this patient had high probability of imminent and life-threatening deterioration due to acute hypoxic respiratory failure due to pneumonia with sepsis , which required my direct attention , intervention and personal management .”
I was shocked to read that I almost died . My husband said that the possibility of losing me was a reality he was not prepared to accept . He enlisted the help of local clergy , family , friends and co-workers to pray for me . And it worked . The Renown medical team and staff were my guardian angels .
When I returned home and started feeling somewhat up to it , I began viewing the medical notes on MyChart and was astounded at the level of extreme care that was efficiently coordinated to save my life ! It appeared that the COVID pneumonia spiraled into other serious medical events . I am in awe and am forever grateful to each of you for your diligence and dedication .
There are no words to describe my feelings of gratitude to each one of you for living up to Renown ’ s motto of “ Fight the Good Fight .” Thank you for displaying your excellence in training and expertise in applying appropriate interventions to deliver the realistic diagnosis that gave me a hopeful prognosis . This was truly a collaborative effort among the medical teams . I am indebted to each of you for fighting to save my life .
I wouldn ’ t be here today if it weren ’ t for the quick thinking and highly trained staff who admitted me in emergency ( thank you , Dr . Berner ) and the subsequent team who managed my care in the ICU . Finally , I was ensured that once I was out of ICU my vitals were improving to the point of being released nearly a week after my initial admission .
Thank you , Renown physicians , nurses , pharmacists , lab technicians , radiologists and other medical team members and everyone who contributed to my well-being and care . I am hopeful that I will never have to be in that position again ; but I know that if I do have to return for any reason at all for hospitalization that I will be in good hands . You have my deep respect and utmost trust . I have highly recommended Renown to co-workers , friends and family .
Sincerely , Mary B .
