RAF PTI SUB-SPECIALISATION PATHWAYS
The three PTI subspecialisation pathways allow you to build on your core Physical Training and Human Performance role through further specialist training and employment in demanding, safety-critical environments. The following sections outline what each pathway involves and the type of roles you may undertake as you progress your PTI career.
RAF PTI- Adventure Training Instructor( ATI)
Adventure Training helps RAF personnel build confidence, resilience, and teamwork through challenging outdoor activity. As an Adventure Training Instructor( ATI), you will plan and deliver safe, professionally led training that develops leadership, decision‐making, and mental robustness.
Your training begins with a 38-week course at the Robson Resilience Centre( RRC) in Grantown-on-Spey, where you gain technical qualifications and instructional skills across a range of adventurous activities. Once qualified, you are likely to serve at RRC Crickhowell, delivering adventure-based training to recruits, officers, reservists, and experienced personnel.
As your career develops, you may work at RRCs in Scotland, Southwest England, or Germany, or support adventure training at RAF stations and universities. You will work in mountain, river, and overseas environments, helping people push their limits and perform under pressure.
As an ATI, you deliver experiences that build stronger, more confident individuals across the RAF.
