Manner of articulatio.n So far we have concentrated on describing consonant sounds in terms of where they are ariculated. We can also described the same sounds in terms of how they are articulated. Stops. Of the sounds we have already mentioned, the set (p), (B), (t), (d), (k) and (g). this sound resulting from, a blocking or stopping effect on the air stream, is called a stop or a plosive. Fricatives. The manner of articulation used in proucing the set of sound (f) (v) (ð),   (Ө), (s) & (z),  (ʃ ),  (Ʒ). As the air is pushed through, a type of friction is produced and the resulting sounds are called fricatives.
