Mother Lily ’ s OK with no MMFF 2016 entry
Is Mother Lily Monteverde mad that her entry Mano Po 7 : Chinoy didn ’ t make it as an official entry in the Metro Manila Film Festival ? “ No , I ’ m not , but I ’ d be dishonest if I ’ d say I didn ’ t feel sad our movie didn ’ t make it ,” she says . “ I ’ m happy for those that made it and I wish them good luck . But I ’ m sad for the industry , because , let ’ s face it , the Christmas playdate is the time when local moviegoers go and flock to theaters to have a good time spending their napamaskuhan or what they saved through the year or what they got from their Christmas bonuses . Admit it , they still go to the movies mainly to be entertained , to relax .
This year , since there are no big-name stars to attract them at karamihan , puro indie films na hindi masyadong kilala ang stars , I think most of them will just choose to stay at home and watch movies on videos . I ’ m also afraid that if theaters don ’ t make money in the festival like they used to , they ’ ll be forced to give back the Christmas playdate again to Hollywood films na noon pa nagla-lobby na makuha nila ulit ang Christmas and New Year holidays for their own big releases , like the new ‘ Star Wars ’ movie na for sure , ipalalabas sa IMAX theaters sa Christmas .”
But she ’ s glad that , at least , Die Beautiful , who she ’ s supporting wholeheartedly , became an official entry . She has just signed up Paolo Ballesteros to a three-movie contract and believes that after winning the best actor award in Tokyo International Film Festival for Die Beautiful , he is on the verge of full stardom .
“ I saw Die Beautiful and he ’ s very good ,” says Mother Lily . “ Naiyak ako sa ending . I think his time has come . He can be the new Dolphy .” ●
Gabbi Garcia turns 18
Gabbi Garca is turning 18 on December 2 and GMA-7 is helping her fulfill her lifelong dream of having a grand debut at Resorts World . “ Ever since I was a child , I really wanted to have a grand debut ,” she says . “ My parents said , ‘ Gusto mo , mag-travel na lang tayo ?’ But I said , no , gusto ko talaga mag-debut . And now heto na , it ’ s happening .”
Her partner in Encantadia , Ruru Madrid , will be there and she ’ ll dance with him along with other co-stars in the show , like Rocco Nacino and Pancho Magno . So what ’ s the real score between her and Ruru ?
“ Ruru is a gentleman and we ’ re the closest of friends now . Hindi naman siya nanliligaw sa ’ kin and I ’ m sure kung manliligaw siya , magsasabi muna siya sa parents ko . So far , wala pa naman siyang sinasabi . At sa ngayon , okay na ang close na muna kami . Hanggang dun na lang muna . Lumalabas naman kami with my sister or my best friend and our handlers , pero never pang kaming dalawa lang .”
Her debut is tagged as “# SincerelyGabbi ” and her fellow Kapuso stars who are close to her are preparing special numbers to greet and congratulate her on her coming a woman . “ I ’ ve been a loyal Kapuso since I joined GMA three years ago and I want to thank them for all the good breaks they ’ re giving me .” ●
Maine hints on project with Alden outside ‘ Eat Bulaga ’
Maine Mendoza has ignited the whole country with her bubbly personality and inimitable entertainment style . How is she taking her sudden shoot to fame ?
“ I think it ’ s safe to say that I am still in the process of familiarizing . I still have a lot of things to learn and I think it would take me a long time to get used to everything .”
Just recently , a big milestone in her career happened – she got married to Alden in the “ Kalyeserye ” of “ Eat Bulaga .” In a year , she has proven to be a true crowd darling . Her every appearance is a hit and everything she touches seems to turn to gold .
And speaking of love , Maine is keeping everyone in kilig mode as she and love team partner Alden Richards keep everyone guessing about their budding romance . Fresh from a short vacation in Europe , the two also shot scenes for their upcoming guest appearance in “ Enteng Kabisote .” What more can we expect from them ?
“ We are currently working on something outside ‘ Eat Bulaga ,’ at dapat abangan nila ito .”
Maine ’ s busy schedule won ’ t stop her from spending time with her loved ones this Christmas . She goes on to say that she ’ s sure that the holidays would be more memorable . ●
Jodie thanks fans after Emmy loss
Jodi Sta . Maria stayed upbeat in spite of losing to Germany ’ s Christiane Paul , star of Unterm Radar at the 44th International Emmy Awards .
The 34-year-old actress , who was nominated for her portrayal of Amor Powers in Pangako Sa ’ Yo , posted a message of thanks to her supporters yesterday and wrote about the “ memorable experience ” that allowed her to meet new people and “ share a glimpse of the Filipino hospitality to my fellow nominees .”
She wrote on Instagram : “ Proudly speaking about the beauty of the Philippines and representing the country to 15 nations made it more meaningful and special .
“ I believe we are ready for the global scene … the international stage is opening up and there are opportunities to showcase our talents worldwide .”
Far from feeling defeated , Jodi said she is more inspired to hone her craft .
“ This will serve as inspiration for me to be more dedicated and serious and passionate about my craft and to be better than the person who I was yesterday . When God gives us talents and puts a dream in our hearts , it ’ s for a good purpose . And it ’ s up to us to have courage to pursue , fight , believe , and fulfill that dream . To God be the glory !” she also wrote
The ABS-CBN series Bridges of Love also failed to bring home the Best Telenovela award , which went to Brazil ’ s Verdades Secretas . ●
